Cuba- Eileen Cook, 104, of Cuba passed away December 25, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born September 14, 1916 in Cuba the daughter of James and Ester (Yemm) George. Eileen is preceded in death by her parents and both siblings, Kenneth George and Ruby Canaday. Eileen married James Cook on August 13, 1944 in Chicago. He died October 10, 2002. She met James while he and his good friend Edward Canaday were home on a military leave. After the war, Eileen and James settled in Ohio and raised their family, Kathleen (Jon) Dingler of Crete, Illinois; and Richard (Janet) Cook of Strongsville, Ohio. Eileen has four grandsons, Joshua (Heather) Dingler, Cory (Akina) Dingler, James (Jennifer) Cook and Matthew Cook, and two great granddaughters, Alyiah Dingler and Alice Dingler.

Eileen and Jim spent all their time in Ohio until Jim retired and they became “snow birds” spending six months each year in Bradenton, Florida. In 1984 Eileen and Jim sold the house in Ohio and returned to family and friends in Cuba. Eileen was busy in Florida with cards clubs, shuffle board games, and fishing. In Illinois she hunted antiques in small towns, never passed a garage sale sign, and frequented resale shops for treasures. Card Clubs and BINGO nights entertained her. Eileen also made stitched quilts, sometimes working over three years on a single design. These quilts have been on display at quilt shows and were a source of great pride for her. Eileen was very happy to have returned to the city where she was born and grew up. As she aged and her eye sight failed, she was always filled with gratitude for the love and care she received by everyone in town. She truly believed she lived out her life as a queen.

Eileen will be cremated according to her wishes. She will be interred in late spring next to her husband in Cuba cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to her church, Cuba United Methodist Church or to her life line of angels at Grant Keime Clinic 114 S. 4th St. Cuba attention Kathy Tolley.  Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at henrylange.com.

I mowed Mrs Cooks yard for years and did many landscaping projects around her yard before my family moved from Cuba. We would sit and talk after the projects were finished. What a great LADY. RIP you sweet soul.
